Good Chumal

This weekend was a lazy one...almost.

On Saturday I cleaned my apartment, thoroughly (not a nice job). Then I went to watch the goings-on at Hwaesong Fortress plain. Every Saturday and Sunday they have some performances followed by changing-of-the-guards.

Then I went to meet Sona for a late lunch at Niji sushi Bar. It was DElicious, even the sashimi. Yum :) I think this is one of my new favorites!

And that's what satisfied looks like.

On Sunday I decided to go to church at the Catholic Cathedral in Myeong Dong (in Seoul). It's a beautiful building and sticks out in it's neo-modern surroundings.

And then I went in search of tekkies (IN MY SIZE) so I can start exerciseing again, and I found some!!!!!! I recommend Myeong Dong for shopping by the way.

Sona

In the first week that I got here I met and became friends with Sona. She is great, and has really helped me settle in to life in Korea.

Our favorite coffee shop, Papparoti, is closing down and moving shop. We are quite sad. They make the best 'bread' things I've ever had. I hope I can find it again somewhere.

On Friday night we went for Jim Durk (Chim duk), my second favorite Korean meal. My favorite is galbi of course. I'll try to post some pics of that later...

A sneak-peek at my life here

This is my studio apartment. In my case, studio very literally means 1 room. It feels like I'm back in Cantabs at varsity, but I do love it!

I am busy with speaking tests at school this week. And these kids are great! I'm a little worried about the older kids in fact. You hear some interesting things coming from them...

Home from Home

I didn't want the first post on this blog to be about South African stuff in Korea, but there you go...

So we went to watch the rugby at Scrooges in Itaewon, a district of Seoul. And you know, I may as well have been in a pub in South Africa.

I got to eat some good old (but nothing like home of course) boerewors & mash...



We sang the national anthem like our lives depended on it, and I swear there wasn't a non-South African in the pub!

We ate biltong, and chatted to some "Capies" who had had one too many, and were speaking Afrikaans much better. And of course, South Africa whipped some Aussie butt like no-one else can. I love my Country :)

I bought a raffel ticket from the local ex-pat rugby team, the Seoul Survivors... And won a meal voucher. I never win anything!

This is Neil and Annie, two South Africans from Durban who have been here for 7 years! Yes, they like it here very much!

OH! And they even played...wait for it....the LEEULOOP!!!! I couldn't believe my ears. I half expected Galla to jump out of somewhere, on all fours, 'knyping twee balle tussen sy bene', but instead we got this:
